Hazel Clarke, artistic director

Choreographer and dance educator, Hazel graduated with a BA in dance from San Jose State University in 2001. In 2006 Hazel founded Kairos Dance Company and their debut of ‘Choices’ was presented at the Hermosa Beach Playhouse. Kairos has performed throughout Los Angeles, Palm Desert, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Colorado and Utah. In 2014 Hazel’s second full-length work '…Am I or are the Others Crazy?’ was presented in Utah and California. Awards include Rocky Mountain Choreography Festival  (2013), sjDANCEco ChoreoFest (2015), 2016-2019 performances included Women Manifest (Hollywood) Front and Main Dance Festival (Temecula), Mixmatch Dance Festival (Santa Monica), San Pedro Dance Festival, Brockus’ dance/Back (Canoga Park), LA Dance Festival (LA), OC Dance Festival (Westiminster), Awakenings and Beginnings Dance Festival (LA), Front and Main Dance Festival (Temecula), Mixmatch Dance Festival (Santa Monica). Kairos’ September 2016 debut of ‘Light in the Moonless Midnight’, a full-length piece focusing on erasing the stigma of mental illness, was met with an emotionally stirred audience response.  The company performed this work again June 2017 and was invited by Tim Robbins’ Actor’s Gang to perform “Paradigm” in February 2018, and “She Speaks” in April 2019.  In the musical theatre circuit, Artistic Director Hazel Clarke’s credits include the LA Times’ Critic’s Choice of Chance Theater’s “A Chorus Line” and the Ovation nominated “Lizzie- the Musical”, and Right Angle Entertainment’s National Tour of “Musical Thrones”. Hazel continues to bring her joy of dance to all ages, is blessed to work with her amazing Kairos dancers.
