An instructor/choreographer for over twenty years, Hazel holds a BA in dance from San Jose State University. Youth and Community theater credits include Gypsy, The Boyfriend (Kings and Clowns), Aladdin (Broadway Bound Players), Sweet Charity (Penn High Drama Boosters), Chicago (Vista Mar High School), The Wiz, Seussical, Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, Into The Woods, Grease, 42nd Street, Drowsy Chaperone, Schoolhouse Rock, White Christmas, Footloose, Godspell, The Little Mermaid, Shrek, High School Musical, Grease, Annie, Honk, Legally Blonde, Beauty and the Beast, Bye Bye Birdie, Peter Pan and Oliver. Regional theater credits include the LA Times Critic’s Choice Award Winner A Chorus Line, Shiela Callahaghan’s Elevada (Chance Theater, Anaheim), and Musical Thrones: A Parody of Ice and Fire (Right Angle Entertainment). Founder of Kairos Dance Company (est. 2006) modern/contemporary credits include Palm Desert Dance Under the Stars Choreography Festival (finalist), Rocky Mountain Choreography Festival (winner), sjDANCEco ChoreoFest (winner). Kairos uses dance as a platform to bring about social awareness; their recent June 2017 performance, ‘Light in the Moonless Midnight’, a multimedia and dance experience in efforts to erase the stigma of mental illness, was met with an emotionally stirred audience response. The company was invited by Tim Robbins’ Actor’s Gang to perform in their Innovative Choreographers Series October 2017, and again to perform their full-length piece exploring social media and its effects (Paradigm) February 2018.
